The Grand Adventure: Part 3

Elmira, NY – T minus 2 days

This morning we went down and got our marriage license. It was a quick process – and nothing to worry about. Or was it?

Does it seem strange to anyone else that the states license marriage? As if, somehow, I could not get married if the state did not permit it. This, of course, is contrary to the rights of all individuals. The fact that the state is so intertwined with our lives and it is simply taken for granted – is disappointing.

Aside from a few acerbic comments to my bride, I did rather well. I swallowed my pride and signed the papers which seemed to imply that I agreed that the state had the right to issue marriage licenses in the first place. I’ll leave the battle to a future generation.

I picked up my tuxedo after a re-fitting, and tons of people are flying in today. My bride has given me her car and pre-programmed her GPS with the locations of the places I will need to go. It’s good to know she knows how helpless I am before the wedding!
